1. GENERAL INFORMATION:
- The Consulate-General of Brazil in Toronto issues birth certificates in Canada , in the provinces under its jurisdiction : Ontario (except Ottawa ), Manitoba and Nunavut.
- A child born in another country than Canada can be registered at this Consulate General only if the original birth certificate is previously legalized by the Brazilian Consular Office in the country of origin of the document.
- The Consulate only registers minors until 12 (twelve) years old.
- Children of Brazilian citizens, older than 12 years old, born abroad and not registered in a Brazilian Consular Office, can only be registered in Brazil.
- To produce legal effects in Brazil, the birth certificate issued in this Consulate has to be confirmed in Brazil at the "Cartório do 1 ° Ofício de Registro Civil/Civil Registry", where the child has a legal domicile in Brazil, or at the "Cartório de 1° Ofício de Registro Civil do Distrito Federal" in Brasilia, if the child does not have a legal domicile in Brazil (Registry Brazilian Law n° 6.015, from the 31 st of December 1973).
2. REQUIREMENTS:
- The applicant for the birth certificate must be the Brazilian parent.
- The Brazilian parent must be come personally to the Consulate upon delivery of the birth certificate for signature of the Registry Letter before the consular authority.
Documents
a) Official birth certificate issued by the Canadian Registrar General "long form" ( * ) which must contain both parents' full names or , as an exception to the rule, a "travel letter" (statement from the Canadian Registrar General, which must contain all the data concerning the birth and the minor's identification ( * ) ;
b )Brazilian identity card(s) of the Brazilian parent(s) or his/her/their Brazilian birth certificate(s) together with his/her/their valid Brazilian passport (s) ( * );
c) Valid identification document of the foreign parent (passport or Driver's Licence) ; if it does not contain the foreign parent's father's and mother's full names, he or she must submit any other document to prove his or her father's and mother's full names ( * );
d) Brazilian marriage certificate (issued in Brazil or by a Brazilian Consular Office ), when there is a name change of the mother's name ( *).( * ) original and an extra copy.
Form
- Fill up, date and sign the Birth Certificate Form.
Fee
- The birth certificate does not require any payment.
3. PROCESSING TIME
- The processing time for the issuance of a birth certificate is 05 working days.
4. RE-ISSUANCE OF A BIRTH CERTIFICATE
- The Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto only re-issues a birth certificate if the minor has already been registered at this Consulate. For the other cases, the applicant must request a re-issuance to the Brazilian Notary Public or Brazilian Consular Office abroad that issued the original document.
Fee
- The consular fee for the re-issuance of a birth certificate is Cnd $9,00, which must be paid by " money order" or " certified cheque" to the " Consulate General of Brazil in Toronto ". Cash will not be accepted
Processing time
- The processing time for the re-issuance of a birth certificate is 05 working days.
5. MAIL SERVICE
- The documents for the issuance of a birth certificate can be previously sent by mail. Nevertheless, the applicant(s) must come personally to the Consulate upon receiving the birth certificate in order to sign the Registry Letter before the consular authorities.
- If the documents are sent by mail, do not send the original documents, but their authenticated copies, which will be held by the Consulate.
- Please inform the date in which you will come to the Consulate to sign the Registry Letter, taking into account the five working days for the processing of the document.
6. ATTENTION
- Make sure the documents submitted are complete. Incomplete applications will be automatically returned.
