1. GENERAL INFORMATION:
- Brazilian citizens are entitled to apply for birth certificates for their children at the Consulate. The certificate is a proof of the children's parents' names and is a guarantee of their rights as Brazilian citizens in the future.
- The Brazilian Constitution of 1988, amended by the Revisional Constitutional Amendment n. 3, from the 7th of June 1994 , establishes that are Brazilian citizens: a)...

c) the ones who have been born abroad, having a Brazilian father or Brazilian mother, as long as they establish legal domicile in Brazil and choose to have, at any moment, the Brazilian citizenship.
- The registration of Brazilian citizens can be done at the Consulate for:
a) the ones who have been born under the rule of article 12, item I, letters "b" and "c", of the Federal Constitution of 1988 (from the 5th of October 1988 until the 9th. Of June 1994), who have not reached the age of 12 years old; and
b) the ones who have been born after the Constitutional Amendment n. 3, from the 7th of June 1994, until they are 12 years old.
- There are no restrictions as to the principle of multiple citizenships for Brazilian citizens who have an original foreign citizenship as a result of birth ( jus soli ) or ascendancy ( jus sanguinis ).
2. LOSS OF CITIZENSHIP:
(Article 12, Paragraph 4, Revisional Constitutional Amendment from the 7th. of June 1994).
The Brazillian citizen will lose his/her citizenship if:
a) he/she has his/her naturalization cancelled, by judicial decision, as a result of activities harmful to the national interest;
b) he/she acquires another citizenship, except in the cases of: 1) recognition of original citizenship by foreign legislation and 2) imposition of naturalization, as a pre-requirement for his/her stay in a foreign country to acquire civil rights.
3. RE-ACQUISITION OF THE BRAZILIAN CITIZENSHIP:
The Brazilian citizen who has lost his/her citizenship, as a result of the circumstances mentioned in item 11, letter b, can re-acquire it by submitting a Citizenship re-acquisition application so that his/her decree of loss of citizenship is officially revoked.
